Gambling vs. Rock Climbing

I rock climb and I gamble. Both are dangerous, take huge amount of risks to perform, and both are just AWESOME! Since I’m a crazy fan of both, my friends keep asking me the question, “Gemma, which one is better?” Or they go a bit further and ask, “if you had to choose, which one would it be?”…Neither!

That’s not true! But hey, sometimes I just have to answer something. So let me just talk about both and share with you why they’re so cool and why I basically live my life between the both of them.

I love Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing is never boring. There are so many routes to climb, and if you got enough from the crags (or the weather) in your country, there are many more challenging and beautiful walls and crags elsewhere. In other words, you will never stop climbing a new rock, just like you will never play exactly the same hand of cards.

Something I adore about rock climbing even though I’m not a sports person at all is that it offers an ultimate physical challenge. Each day on the rock is an opportunity for you to go beyond the skills you already have. There’s always something new to learn. Like a new hand or a new slot game. You should push yourself each time (yes, again and again, and again) on the rock. Also, I always get to explore new and more difficult routes. Depending on my physical ability and on my own level of risk acceptance, I have come to understand that no grade is tough enough. It gives me a different sense of adventure and freedom.

Most climbers get going because of the great feeling they get when scaling rocks. But I go even further than that, because with rock climbing, I’m able to go wherever and whenever I want. I set my own rules. I get to watch the most breath-taking views of beautiful nature and breath taking locations. When looking for new routes, I also come across unexpected and beautiful sceneries. In addition and never forget this part, I reach the top, I have a breathtaking view of the surroundings that not many people can see.

I Love Gambling

Now, if we talk gambling, I can almost say the same beautiful description as I did when describing rock climbing. I can not only gamble at any time, from anywhere or in my own home, but I can also travel the world and get to see the most amazing countries with the greatest casinos. And by now you know that casinos can be small planets on themselves. If you don’t believe me, hit the Bellagio’s botanical gardens and then we’ll talk!

Furthermore and even more important, the rush in gambling is undeniable. Watching your pick, your hand, your roll exponentially increase your initial “investment” within minutes or seconds is thrilling. The juice that surges through your mind from having tangible proof that you are indeed a winner can be wildly intoxicating. Even if you’re in possession of an alleged “sure thing”, the possibility of losing gets your heart racing. The doubt, the endless outcomes, the potential freak accidents, all of them can have you feeling like you’ve climbed Mount Everest.

So which one do I prefer? I cannot just say!
